About us

We are one of the oldest sailing schools in the country, beginning life in 1972 under the guidance of renowned sailing author and journalist John Myatt, whose bench mark for quality but fun teaching is a key priority. Our success is due to the high standards we set ourselves.

The courses are run by an experienced team of professional instructors who provide a positive, attentive and caring learning environment. They have extensive sea experience and have worked for the school itself for many years.

The purpose of the school is to provide practical and theory tuition in seamanship, navigation and cruising under sail but we also offer skippered charter for sailing experience and cruising holidays. We aim to meet all expectations of your time with us.

Fowey Sailing School in Cornwall is recognised by the Royal Yacht Association and therefore undergoes rigorous checks on the standards and safety of the yachts and the ability of the skipper and instructors. Our safety record is very very good, however we advise all students and interested parties to check out our Terms and Conditions and consider providing there own insurance.

Our boat – Malo 38
'Swedish Sailing Perfection'

The Malo 38 is a true offshore cruiser from Sweden. Not only is she a good looking, sleek yacht but she carries a good deal of safety features. She has a deeper, safer cockpit and the addition of the Targa arch helps to reduce the danger of head injuries from the boom. In addition, the teak decks and self tailing winches help to make sailing a little easier.

The spacious saloon with its gorgeous cabinetry is the focal point of the Malo. The settees create ample seating – their contoured seat back cushions providing the last word in comfort. Made from 5" thick foam and top quality upholstery, they transform into generous sea berths to both port and starboard sides.
